Meet Sheila Coressel
From the Farmhouse . . .

Surrounded by corn and soybeans, Sheila grew up on the farm that her grandfather built in Defiance County. She spent summers playing with her four siblings in the fields or the kiddie pool, on the swing set, and with the outdoor cats. She has fond memories of sitting around campfires roasting marshmallows and eating s’mores. Serving several years in the local Girl Scout troop, Sheila performed as head majorette of the Ramettes, a local baton group.

Sheila’s father farmed the family land, worked in the Campbell’s soup factory, drove a school bus, and eventually retired from his position in electrical maintenance at an auto factory in Archbold. Sheila’s mom was a full-time stay-at-home mom who returned to officework once all her children entered school. From them Sheila learned her strong work ethic, completing household chores, contributing to the community, and excelling in school.
. . . to the Schoolhouse . . .
Before graduating from Tinora High School, Sheila's activities ranged from student council and yearbook section editor to track-and-field statistician. She became the first in her family to attend college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Akron. An affinity for helping college students in their development led to her Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel.

After working for four years at Bowling Green State University as a hall director, Sheila returned to school for her Doctor of Philosophy in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education. For 28 years at a variety of universities, Sheila has dedicated her career to college students and their futures.
Then...
. . . to the Statehouse.
To give back to her community, Sheila ran for Ada Village Council in 2019. One of four candidates for two seats, she was elected by a margin of four votes! She has served as the council representative to the Ada-Liberty Township Ambulance Board and chaired a majority of the council committees, including streets, buildings and grounds, finance, and safety. Sheila and her fellow council members ensure that their decisions meet the needs of the Ada community. After her re-election in 2023, Sheila decided to bring her experience to represent Ohio’s 83rd district in Columbus. With over 25 years in higher education and four-plus years on Ada Council, she is prepared to represent the people of the 83rd with integrity, knowledge, and compassion.

Sheila’s upbringing closely connects her to the residents of her district. In her second run for the Statehouse, she feels this even more strongly. Sheila knows that many residents of Hancock, Hardin and Northern Logan Counties struggle with the cost of healthcare – some forgoing treatment because the basic needs of housing, food, and transportation are more pressing. As your representative in Columbus, Sheila will work with her peers on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation to strengthen Ohio’s economy, improve opportunity, and increase affordability for the people of Ohio’s 83rd district.
